Your First Peptide Cycle: What to Expect and How to Prepare

Before You Start: The Non-Negotiables

Before using any peptide, there are several steps that should be considered essential, not optional:

  • Consult a healthcare provider: Ideally one who is knowledgeable about peptide therapy. They can assess your health status, check for contraindications, and order appropriate baseline bloodwork.
  • Get baseline bloodwork: At minimum, a comprehensive metabolic panel, complete blood count, hormone panel (IGF-1, testosterone, thyroid), fasting glucose, and HbA1c. This gives you a reference point to measure changes against.
  • Research your specific peptide: Understand the mechanism of action, expected effects, potential side effects, proper dosing, and storage requirements for the specific peptide you plan to use.
  • Source quality products: Verify COAs, check purity via third-party HPLC, and use reputable sources. Quality control in the research peptide market varies enormously.

Setting Realistic Expectations

Peptides are not magic. They are subtle biological tools that work within your body's existing systems. Some realistic expectations:

  • Growth hormone secretagogues typically take 4-12 weeks before noticeable effects on body composition
  • BPC-157 users commonly report initial changes in 1-2 weeks for gut-related issues, longer for structural injuries
  • Sleep quality improvements from GH secretagogues are often noticed within the first 1-2 weeks
  • Dramatic overnight transformations do not happen with peptides — if someone claims otherwise, they are selling something

Starting Low

A common mistake is starting at full dose immediately. Most experienced practitioners recommend starting at a lower dose and gradually increasing. This allows you to assess tolerance and identify any adverse reactions before committing to a full protocol. If you experience side effects, it is much easier to manage them at a lower dose.

Tracking Your Progress

Keep a simple daily log noting your dose, injection time, injection site, any side effects, sleep quality, energy levels, and relevant subjective measures. This log becomes invaluable when evaluating whether the peptide is working and when discussing results with a healthcare provider. Objective measures like bloodwork at 4-8 week intervals provide data that subjective feelings cannot.

When to Stop

Discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider if you experience severe side effects, allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing, rash), persistent pain at injection sites, or any symptoms that concern you. It is always better to err on the side of caution. No research goal is worth compromising your health.
