Why Peptides for Skin and Hair?

Skin aging and hair loss share common underlying drivers: declining collagen synthesis, reduced blood flow to tissues, chronic low-grade inflammation, and diminished growth factor signaling. Conventional treatments address symptoms (retinoids for wrinkles, minoxidil for hair), but peptides can target the upstream biological processes that drive these visible signs of aging.

The most effective approach combines topical peptides for direct skin and scalp application with systemic peptides that address body-wide hormonal and growth factor support.

GHK-Cu: The Master Regenerator

GHK-Cu (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex) is a naturally occurring tripeptide that declines significantly with age. Research by Dr. Loren Pickart has demonstrated that GHK-Cu influences the expression of over 4,000 genes, with a net effect of shifting gene expression toward a younger, healthier pattern. For skin specifically, GHK-Cu stimulates collagen I and III synthesis, promotes glycosaminoglycan production (which holds moisture in skin), increases elastin, enhances fibroblast proliferation, and reduces fine lines and photodamage.

For hair, GHK-Cu extends the anagen (growth) phase of hair follicle cycling, increases follicle size, and improves blood flow to the scalp. It can be used topically (in serums or creams at 1-2% concentration) and subcutaneously (1-2 mg per day) for systemic effects.

GH Secretagogues for Collagen Support

Growth hormone is one of the primary drivers of collagen synthesis throughout the body. As GH declines with age, so does collagen production, leading to thinner skin, wrinkles, and slower wound healing. The CJC-1295/Ipamorelin combination elevates GH and IGF-1 levels, which directly supports collagen turnover. Many users report noticeably improved skin texture, hydration, and elasticity within 4-8 weeks of starting GH secretagogues.

BPC-157 for Tissue Repair

BPC-157's angiogenic properties make it valuable for skin health by improving blood flow to dermal tissues. Better microcirculation delivers more oxygen and nutrients to skin cells, supporting repair and regeneration. Some users incorporate BPC-157 into their skin stack for its growth factor-upregulating effects and its synergy with GHK-Cu in wound healing models.

Sample Skin and Hair Protocol

  • Topical (daily): GHK-Cu serum 1-2% applied to face and scalp in the evening after cleansing
  • Subcutaneous (daily): GHK-Cu 1-2 mg subcutaneous, cycled 4-8 weeks on, 2-4 weeks off
  • GH support (nightly): CJC-1295 100 mcg + Ipamorelin 100-200 mcg before bed on empty stomach
  • Optional: BPC-157 250 mcg subcutaneous daily during active protocols

Supporting the Protocol

Peptides work best alongside foundational skin health practices:

  • Sun protection: UV damage is the primary driver of skin aging. No peptide can overcome chronic unprotected sun exposure.
  • Vitamin C: Essential cofactor for collagen synthesis. Topical and supplemental vitamin C supports the collagen-building effects of GHK-Cu and GH.
  • Hydration: Adequate water intake supports glycosaminoglycan function in the dermis.
  • Retinoids: Tretinoin and peptides are complementary. Retinoids increase cell turnover while peptides support the repair and regeneration process.

What to Expect

Skin improvements from peptides are gradual. Expect improved hydration and glow within 2-4 weeks, visible reduction in fine lines at 6-12 weeks, and improvements in skin firmness and elasticity over 3-6 months. Hair changes take longer, with reduced shedding noticed at 4-8 weeks and new growth becoming apparent at 3-6 months. Consistency is key, as collagen remodeling is a slow biological process.
